Permanent Makeup is a cosmetic tattooing technique, which allows a semi-permanent pigmentation to the dermis part of skin. Producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eyebrows, lips, eyelids, face, head and even breasts.
-
Yes, Permanent Makeup is safe. The procedure is very similar to the process of tattooing. In regards to safety, all our needles and cartridges are single use. We dispose them after every procedure. Our quality and sanitary standards are very high. Our equipment and supplies are only purchased thru manufacturers or reputable dealers that ensures that we are fully licensed to operate.

While permanent makeup is great for most people. There are some individuals that are not suitable to receive the procedure.
Under 18 years of age: We can not perform any cosmetic procedure under the age of 18 (that includes even with parental consent). The same NYS Law for tattooing applies to any permanent makeup procedure.
Pregnant or Nursing: The body goes through hormonal changes and any ink entering the skin, the results can be unpredictable.
Individuals with a skin condition: Eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis
Individuals with Pacemaker or Heart problems
Individuals with viral infections and/or diseases, Organ Transplant, and some autoimmune diseases such as HIV and Lupus: People with a compromised immune system are at risk of developing infections
Individuals prone to keloids : the procedure would puncture the skin, creating scars that causes the healing process to prolong and cause additional scarring.
Individuals prone to epilepsy: A brain disorder that causes people to have recurring seizures. The trauma and stress of the treatment can contribute to a seizure.
Undergoing chemotherapy. It is important to allow enough time for the body to recover (generally 6 months to a year) and for any side effects of chemotherapy to resolve before undergoing any type of cosmetic procedure.

• Oily Skin: increased oil production can cause hair-strokes to blur and heal lighter and powdery.
• Smoking: smokers may notice that their Microblading will fade faster.
• Anemia and Iron Deficiency: Your body may absorb the pigments more quickly.
• Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading and pigment color alteration. You will want to use a special sunscreen on your brows. We recommend InkGuard (can be found on Amazon.)
• Age and Metabolism: The faster your metabolism, the faster the pigment will fade.
• Bleeding During the Procedure: Excessive bleeding during your appointment will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow pre-care instructions to minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood-thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine before your appointment.
• Skin Treatments: Chemical peels, lasers, topical retinoids, anti-acne, exfoliating, and anti-aging products will cause the pigment to fade more quickly.
• Improper Pre and Post Care: Not following the given pre and post care instructions will greatly diminish your healed results. Follow all instructions exactly for the best results! I can only control what happens inside my studio, so please come prepared beforehand and follow all instructions exactly afterwards for the best results.
-
Do not have caffeine or alcohol for 24 hours prior to your appointment to prevent excessive pain and bleeding.
DO NOT TAKE ADVIL or other blood thinners such as Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E and/or Ibuprofen 48-72 hours prior to your procedure. Tylenol can be taken if you have low pain tolerance.
Avoid exercising the day of the procedure.
Do not take or get any chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, vitamin E, retinols, fish oil, at least 4 weeks before your appointment.
Do not get fillers or Botox injections 4 weeks before and after procedure.
Please read the aftercare to become familiar with the recovery.
FOR LIP BLUSH:
If your appointment is booked during an outbreak of cold sores on your lips, the procedure can not be done. Please know that if you have simplex virus herpes, you may awaken an outbreak following this treatment. It is highly recommended to take anti-viral medication 5 days before and on the day of the procedure and 5 days after the procedure or as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.
-
It can be slightly uncomfortable, but bearable. Depending on procedure, it can last between 1-3 hours. Numbing is used for your comfort and our technique quite gentle. If you are nervous about pain, you may take 1-2 Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment. DO NOT take Advil or drink coffee prior to your appointment. These substances can cause you to bleed more than usual and make you more sensitive during the procedure.

Permanent Makeup is a semi-permanent procedure. Gradual fading can be expected for all micro-pigmentation procedures. This varies among people and is dependent on the specific shade used, personal care routine and sun exposure. Periodic touchups are recommended to maintain the desired look. You can also choose to change colors of your permanent makeup. Generally, depending on the treatment, it could last anywhere from 6 months to 18 months.
*Final results Can not be guaranteed as every individual retains and breaks down pigment differently and a follow-up appointment is recommended at 8-12 weeks. This way, we evaluate your pigment retention and make any necessary adjustments. People with lighter complexion, color correction or from sparse to no eyebrows, may require more than one follow-up to reach their desired look for an additional cost.
-
Following the procedure your tattoo will appear much darker and bolder than it will heal due to oxidation in the surface layer of your skin. You may experience some redness and/or swelling around the area, though this typically disappears within 48 hours.
After a few days (typically between days 5-10) you will notice some light scabbing or flaking on the area. Do not pick at these, doing so can result in loss of pigment in those areas. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished exfoliating. You may notice that some areas may appear very light or even to have lost pigment entirely after they have peeled, the epidermis will be thicker, which causes the pigment to hide underneath. The epidermis will normalize over the next 4-6 weeks and softened pigment will resurface and mature back into the surface of the skin.
At 4-8 weeks your brows will be fully healed. If you’d prefer darker, bolder brows we can always add more color or dimension during your follow-up appointment!

We do touch-ups for clients of The Laughing Widow. It is required that anyone who has had their brows done previously by another artist to send me pictures before booking an appointment at the CONSULTATION REQUEST PAGE
This way we can discuss whether or not you can be accepted as a client. Any client coming to me from a different artist is considered a new client (with full prices.)
FOR LIPS: We do not touchup other artists' work. Only work on lips that have not been tattooed before.
-
Yes! Permanent Makeup is a two-step process, and a touch up is required to get the best results. Your touch up is done 6-10 weeks after your initial session. The procedure will be considered incomplete if not done within that time frame. This is where we assess your retention, perfect the shape and color, and add more dimension. Touch ups are very important and add to the overall results and longevity of your permanent makeup. For your convenience, your touch up is scheduled during your initial procedure.
